Saint Patrick's Day is not only festive for Irish American's and others but it signals the start of spring emergence of Carpenter Ants that are nesting in your home of business. With local temperatures expected to rise into the 40's and above next week, these insects will start to stir, often seen drinking large amounts of water in sinks, dishwashers or bathtubs or snacking on sugary and other human food that they will share with hungry fellow nest mates.
Don't be confused with the relatively small size. Carpenter Ant workers come in small and large sizes (Polymorphic). So those "regular" or "medium" sized 1/4" ants could be these often destructive insects.
