Cumberland, RI Pest Control - Wood Eating Pests
The age old question is that if a tree falls in the forest and none is there to hear it does it make a sound? I can tell you that if a tree falls on your property it does make a sound! Certainly a tree that is over 60ft tall!!! I was performing an inspection for a homeowner that called us because a tree fell on their property and damaged their car and home. The tree company that was cutting up the tree said that the tree came down because it was ravaged by pests. The homeowner was worried that there may be other areas of their home under attack so they asked us to do a full wood destroying organism inspection. The tree had been completely decimated by termites, carpenter ants, and lyctid beetles. Because the core of the tree trunk was decimated and hollowed out by pests it was just a matter of time before a wind & rain storm took it down. The tree took down a power line and caused substantial damage to their house and car. Thankfully insurance covered the damage and we found no other pest activity on the property or the house so we installed our EHS TM-1 Eco-Monitors to detect termites before they enter the home.
It goes to show you how dangerous pests are in our lives, this situation could have be much worse. The tree could have injured or killed someone in the fall or from a fire with the electrical lines. Since pests are often undetectable it is best to get a professional inspection especially with wood destroying organisms as they damage wood from the inside out.
