EHS can Solve any Pest Situation - North End, Boston

08 May 2013

Posted by Joseph Coupal

EHS service specialists were excluding a clients building by cementing openings and screening vents and a mulch bed for mice and rats in Boston's old and famous North End we came across a famous wild all American bird, the Wild Turkey! It's fitting that she was walking the historic Freedom Trail, Benjamin Franklin lobbied unsuccessfully to have this wise and versatile foul to be America's symbol.

It after all, sustained the easily settlers and native Americans in both wild and domesticated forms for centuries. She seemed content to strut among curious passers by near Boston's Paul Revere historical home, she joins our staff at EHS as proud Americans! We like native animals and it shows.

Woman Reports ‘Stalker’ Pigeon To Police

28 Jan 2013

A woman in the western German town of Darmstadt finally reported a pigeon to her local police force, after the over-friendly bird kept “stalking” her by hanging round her house.

The exasperated woman told officers on Monday that the blue-grey pigeon had been a constant presence at her side for the past three weeks. She said the “strange bird” had been hanging round in her garden or on her terrace constantly, and seemed to be looking for some kind of “familial connection.”

The woman claimed that every time she opened the door, the seemingly intelligent pigeon would immediately fly into the house. Her gentle attempts to persuade her unwanted guest to leave proved fruitless, as did her grandson’s deployment of his water pistol.

Even once it had been chased out, the persistent pigeon would perch on a nearby branch and wait for the next opportunity to present its credentials as a potential companion.

But the animal failed to recommend itself: when it did get in, the stubborn animal would “leave traces that no good housewife would want in her home,” the police report said.

When the helpless woman finally went to the authorities, officers were unable to help her, and could only recommend that she seek the advice of a pigeon fancier or an animal psychologist.

But then, before going to the professionals, the fraught woman decided to have another go herself. “Apparently, this time the bird received a clear ‘dismissal’ and flapped off on its own,” the report concluded.

Urban Bird Control

What you see here is just a real bad installation of bird "spikes" in a commercial parking garage. The maintenance department of this company spent thousands of dollars on product alone trying to exclude birds in their parking garage on to fail miserably. It also looks horrible! They spent thousands of dollars more in labor to install the failed products and countless hours in labor for routine cleaning. This put workers at risk for disease from the pigeon droppings and their liability was through the roof!

Most people think an owl or “spike” will solve all bird issues but that is never the case. You must always determine the bird pressure and observe their behavior. This is looking at a problem holistically (entire or big picture) in order to provide a successful bird proofing service. EHS solved this issue permanently and it is a reason why we are considered an industry leader at urban bird control.

A picture is worth a thousand words so here are 2,000 words! As you can see when it comes to urban bird control, there is no job that EHS can not handle! The problem with pest birds is that people think they can solve the problem on their own by putting out a plastic owl, bird gel, or bird spikes. It always fails and then they call for professional help.

I wanted to show you a “birds eye view” of what a professional netting job looks like when it is done by EHS. You can’t even tell this was netted off to exclude pigeons, sparrows, and starlings. This parking garage for a government office was infested with pest birds.

They spent thousands of thousands of dollars on products that failed to solve the problem. They spent MUCH MUCH more on the labor to power wash and clean all the droppings! This of course was a big safety issue for employees.

They called EHS and despite them doubting this would ever be solved we proved to them that it could be done expertly! Just more proof that when you have pest birds you need to call the leader in urban bird control, EHS!

Before and After Bird Job

Take a look at the amazing quality of work we do for birds. These ledges on a building 3-6 stories high have had pigeons infesting them for over a decade. Look at the accumulation of bird poop plus staining of the concrete. The acid in the droppings will destroy just about anything over time. They even made attempts to solve the issue on their own as you can see the chicken wire did not work.

We installed a ledge deterrent system plus fabricated our own and even painted some black to match the building. The product is installed at a 45 degree slope so birds literally slide off when they try to land. It is invisible & permanent and we solved a decade plus bird issue. The client raved about the results because it worked, looked great, and saved them countless resources as they no longer had to dedicate labor to routine cleaning of the droppings.
